Façade gommage® is a French term, which refers to the process of gently cleaning masonry by projecting very fine powders with low-pressure compressed air.
It is ideal for preserving historic buildings, statues and sculptures, as it does not use any chemicals, water or detergent.
Our technicians follow an extensive training programme and work within a lightweight vacuum cabin that can be suspended from outriggers or mounted on a specialised boom truck, so there is no need for costly and unsightly scaffolding.
Using these cabins means that the surrounding area is kept safe and clean for passing pedestrians and building occupants.
The cleaning process removes any dirt and pollution deposits from interior and exterior surfaces made from limestone, sandstone, granite, marble, brick, concrete aggregate, stone, slate and stucco.
First, a fine powder is dispersed along the surface and by moving with the airflow, these low mass particles slowly diminish the dirt layer with a gentle rubbing action.
The airborne particles are then captured in the vacuum cabin, moistened with a water spray then flushed through a hose to a containment system at ground level. These non-toxic powders are safe for landfill deposit.
Unlike traditional sandblasting techniques, which can have a harmful high impact, the facade gommage® system provides perfect results without damage.
Our Gommage® process offers many benefits:
- No need for expensive and time-consuming scaffolding
- Total security, as the folding hydraulic arm prevents any unwanted access into the building
- Environmentally safe process and by-products
- Perfect results every time
